For this project I was given free reign to design something in which I was interested. I decided to construct a restaurant identity that focuses on fine dining and an excellent selection of martinis. Terra is a place for people to feel free to dress up, grab a drink after work, or be casual and grab a late lunch with friends. I started first by designing the logo. It is constructed out of cut up wedges that resemble fruit, which you would see in the drinks. I chose to use a minty green-blue, tropical color scheme, making the wedges feel like coconuts. It has a 1960’s graphic feel, which I was going for because that was a great time in history in terms of martinis and drinking cocktails. While it is a throwback to another time and place, it still retains it’s modern quality through the use of type. It is an upscale dining experience, but Terra does not take itself too seriously. The project includes a menu, table wine and drink list, matchboxes, a business card, and coasters. The shape of the coconut is mirrored throughout the layout. The typeface is Helvetica. The Terra logo itself creates its own typeface.
