Pine Street Inn SOCIAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

I decided to focus on a local homeless shelter that is in Boston, Massachusetts. The Pine Street Inn offers shelter, food, and job placement for many people who are facing what can be the hardest times in their lives. The design shows the two words ‘homeless’ and ‘hopeless’ and then follows with “let’s cut out less”. The images of scissors and dotted lines give it a hand touched feel. I felt it was important to show that there is something we can do. Instead of having another campaign showing homeless people, but not giving any answers, I decided to give a solution. People respond better when you give them a positive solution. The design focuses on the scissors cutting the homeless person out of their environment of poverty and despair. The fonts used were Futura and Helvectica. The color palette consists of duo-tone images in blues and greys – something you would find in the city landscape, including sidewalks and buildings.
